The Ranch

Located in California Central Coast's Indian Valley along Big Sandy Creek bordering San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties, Mike & Christy's 60 acre Vicarious Ranch is home to Indian Valley Creamery, VCR Registered Dairy Goats, Central Coast Mangalitsas, Homegrown Eggs, The Sweet Retreat and Boondocks Archery.

The ranch is geographically divided into upper and lower parts. Located on the blue oak covered upper ranch are the ranch house, nursery, chicken coop, breeder hog pens, buck pens, gardens and orchard. Other features of the upper ranch include a commercial wood fired pizza oven, greenhouse, outdoor movie theater and lounge deck with pallet bar.

The lower ranch includes the pastures corrals, pole barn, dairy, feeder hog pens, caretaker's quarters, archery range and "Sweet Retreat" farm stand. The back 40 is currently used for hunting, sheep grazing and 3d archery tournaments.

The Dairy

Our dairy is completely built but we still have to run power and water lines and get it certified by the state. To avoid conflicts between the USDA and building inspectors, we opted for a mobile dairy with three separate rooms for milking, sanitizing and making. For now we are working on cheese recipes for our own use until we are ready to go public.  We intend to specialize in fresh and brined cheeses, and other dairy products.
